Hybrid Energy 101

Hybrid renewable energy systems are becoming popular as stand-alone power systems for providing electricity in remote areas and as microgrid systems due to advances in renewable energy technologies and challenges from petroleum products, cost, and centralized grid reliability issues. A hybrid energy system usually consists of two or more renewable energy sources used together to provide increased system efficiency as well as greater balance in energy supply.

The hybrid system is a better option for construction of modern electrical grids that includes economic, environmental and social benefits.

Photovoltaics, Biomass, and other renewable energy technologies, significantly contribute to economic and social development. To date, about 1.5 billion people in the world, many of whom live in isolated areas, still do not have access to electricity and to clean water, primary health care, education and other basic services; the impact of which to a large extent depends on access to electricity.
