Follow An Amazing Journey
Murphy International - Developers of renewable and conventional plants including Wind, Biomass, Geothermal, Hydroelectric, CHP, Cogeneration and Alternative Fuels projects
The Road to Biglow Canyon Wind Farm has been a 10-year journey to a cleaner, more sustainable future.   It is a "task of global proportions," the beginning of which Murphy International played a pivotal role.  Working closely with the local farmers, we secured their participation, thru our wind development business- Zephyr Power Development, LLC (ZPD). ZPD monitored and evaluated the wind resource, and partnered with Innogy, PLC and affiliate Orion Energy, for project development.  Together selling the advanced project to Portland General Electric (PGE) while retaining an interest. PGE has produced a flash and video presentation in a fascinating interactive format.  The story will give you a close-hand view of the project, how it has made positive changes in the surrounding communities and how it will impact the future of this area.  Please take a moment to view the presentation (you won't be sorry) by clicking on the link below the right-hand graphic.

Norwin Wind Turbine in Dominica, the Caribbean
June 2008 - a NORWIN 225 kW wind turbine erected in Dominica, the Caribbean!
In June 2008, Norwin put up a 225 kW wind turbine in Dominica. The erection of the wind turbine was not without complications due to very limited accessibility to the site, so installation took a little longer than planned, but was successful.   View our Photo Gallery!

How Wind Power Works
Wind turbines have blades designed like airplane wings. They rotate due to a pressure differential caused by air moving over the surface of the blade. The blades turn a rotor which drives an electrical generator. Turbines are designed to automatically face the wind either mechanically or by computer-controlled drive systems... [ more ]

Our Current Wind Projects
Murphy International is involved directly and indirectly thru investment entities, in a number of Renewable Energy Projects in Wind.  Here are some of our projects in various stages of planning and implementation. [ more ]

Small Wind Systems
Small electric wind turbines for residential or small commercial use have been available for more than three decades. The current technology is highly reliable and converts wind energy into electricity efficiently. Wind turbines for a residential application typically range in electrical output capacity from 500 watts up to 10 kilowatts... [ more ]

Distributed/Community Wind
Unlike large central-station generation, which is connected to the utility transmission system, distributed generation is typically smaller and connects to the grid at distribution-voltage levels. There is debate about the role wind power generation could play in the nation’s expanding market for distributed generation because... [ more ]

Wind/Diesel Power Systems
A continuous supply of environmental friendly electricity and fresh water at competitive prices!   Murphy International offers stand alone wind/diesel hybrid systems for operation with high wind penetration. These hybrid systems are total and optimal electric and water solutions - delivered as complete stand alone wind/diesel power and desalination water stations ready for connection and operation.
